Before this book will have left the publishers a building will have been erected on the Shameen, Canton, sufficiently large to accommodate a refriger- ating plant of 120 tons capacity, cold stores suitable for the needs of the inhabitants, separate quarters for two Europeans, a general shop for sale of dairy produce, and an ice store. The system of ice making will be that known as can ice with up-to-date machinery and electrical appliances, By arrangement the water for making the ice will be supplied by the Shameen Municipality. In this, the latest venture of the Company, the native population of Canton have the privilege of supplying half the capital while this Company are appointed general managers.
